I Thought I Would Die
The robbers accused of holding Kim Kardashian at gunpoint in her hotel room and stealing $6 million worth of jewelry were face-to-face with their victim today, as the superstar delivered testimony in a Paris courtroom on May 13.
Kardashian took to the stand to deliver a harrowing account of her robbery on Oct. 3, 2016 during Paris Fashion Week. She recounted the traumatizing incident where, in the middle of the night, the accused burst into her hotel room and restrained her at gunpoint.
Kardashian said that, while wearing only a bathrobe, she was zip-tied and her mouth was taped shut, according to the Associated Press.
“I was certain that was the moment that he was going to rape me,” she told the court. “I absolutely did think I was going to die.”
The thieves had originally arrived at the hotel dressed as police officers and handcuffed a concierge before swarming into Kardashian’s room.
“I thought it was some sort of terrorist attack,” she said.
She also described praying for her family and friends as she thought she wasn’t going to live through the incident, telling the robbers at one point, “I have babies.”
Kardashian said one of the robbers pointed a gun at her head and dragged her to the bathtub, with one shouting, “Ring! Ring!” and pointing to his hand, to imply that he wanted her jewelry.
The ten thieves on trial — the bulk of which were in their ’60s and ’70s — have been dubbed “the grandpa robbers” by the French press. There were originally twelve accused of the crime, but one died before the trial and one was excused due to illness. The seasoned robbers reportedly traced Kardashian’s whereabouts through her social media use.
Ultimately the thieves took off with $6 million in jewelry and left Kardashian locked in the bathroom.
